Our name
Tamra means copper.
For thousands of years, families across India have kept water in copper vessels overnight and poured the first glass of the morning from them — a ritual called tamra jal.
We started Tamra & Co. to bring that warmth to everyday drinking: honest copper, simple shapes, and finishes that grow more beautiful with use.
- Solid copper bodies on our water cups, tumblers and bottle
- Hand-hammered textures that catch the light
- Patina that deepens over the years — or polishes back in minutes
Why copper
Colder in seconds, frosted to the last sip.
Copper conducts temperature better than glass or ceramic, so it takes on the chill of the ice almost instantly. The outside frosts, the drink stays crisp, and every sip feels colder.
- Fills to a classic 16 oz serve
- Sturdy handles that keep warm hands off the cold metal
- Lined option for citrus-forward cocktails
For your water ritual
Cups, tumblers and a 1-litre bottle for tamra jal at home, at work and on the move.

Copper care
Made to be used — and loved for years.
Copper is a living metal. With a little care, yours will stay bright or develop a rich, antique patina — your choice.
- Hand wash in warm, soapy water and dry right away
- Restore shine with lemon and salt, then rinse
- Not for the dishwasher, microwave or hot drinks
- Enjoy acidic drinks promptly in unlined copper
Good questions
Copper, answered
Is the copper safe to drink from?
Yes. Pure copper has been used for drinkware for centuries. Our unlined pieces are best for water and cold drinks that you enjoy straight away. Don't store acidic drinks (citrus juice, vinegar, wine) or hot liquids in unlined copper for long periods. If you love citrus-heavy cocktails, choose our lined Forge Mule Mug.
Why do Moscow Mules come in copper mugs?
Copper chills fast and holds the cold, so the mug frosts over and every sip of ginger beer and lime stays icy. It also looks the part — the mug became the drink's signature in the 1940s.
Why is my copper changing colour?
That's natural oxidation — copper slowly develops a warm, darker patina. Some people love it. To restore the shine, rub with half a lemon dipped in salt (or a paste of baking soda and vinegar), rinse, and dry straight away.
How do I clean my copper cups?
Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, then dry immediately with a soft cloth. Avoid the dishwasher, abrasive scourers and soaking.
What is tamra jal?
Tamra is Sanskrit for copper. In Ayurvedic tradition, water is left in a copper vessel overnight and sipped in the morning — a simple ritual our name comes from.
